Researches have come to the conclusion that androgens can be effectively used to cure infertility of patients with ovarian insufficiency.
They also emphasize that the effect of male hormones on a woman´s organism is diverse, which arises animated discussions and leads to controversial points of view among specialists in the area of reproductive endocrinology. However, the results show that the use of androgens is reasonable and fully justified in some cases, the researches add.
Animal testing and cytological analyses helped the researches make the conclusion that androgens have a varied effect on ovaries. First, male gametes prevent apoptosis, i.e. programmed cell death, and help a large number of follicles mature. Second, activating extra receptors on their surface, they make cells more sensitive to FSH.
