Egg donor selection

Select an egg donor according to your blood type

A child inherits his blood group from his parents according to the laws of genetics. But the parents and their child may have different blood groups. Is there any scientific explanation of this fact?

Let us remind you of the blood group system.

The fundamental difference between groups is individual specific properties of red blood cells. Blood plasma has 2 types of agglutinating substance (antibodies): α and β. Red cells, in their turn, have agglutinogens (antigens) А and В. But antibodies and antigens may be absent from blood plasma and red cells. Owing to this fact 4 combinations of blood types are possible:

Agglutinins

(antibodies)

I (0)

αβ

II (А)

А

III (В)

В

IV (АВ)

Moreover, red cells may have or have no special albumin. It is determined by R-h factor: positive or negative.

So, let us resume the issue of blood group inheritance. In the way the child inherits other features and traits of his parents, he inherits their genes.

1 blood type (00) indicates to the fact that the child inherited the same set of genes from his mother and father (0). But it should be taken into account that the second set of genes, which were not inherited from the parents, might be different. As is it shown in the table above, children with 1 blood group may be born to parents with III (В0) and II (А0) blood groups.

2 blood type, the gene which stands for letter «A», may be inherited by a child either from both the parents or only from one of them:

  • В+В
  • В+0 (in case if the second inherited gene is 0 which expression is suppressed by gene A)

3 blood type gene stands for letter «В». This blood group is inherited if

  • gene B is inherited from both the parents
  • genes В and 0 prevail (in this case gene 0 is not expressed as well)

4 blood type gene stands for АВ. A child has this blood group if he inherits gene А from one parent and gene В from the other one.

The selection of egg donorsis done by Nova Clinic according to this blood group system.
